Apply NOW for financial aid for 2012-2013 (remember you must apply every year). Workshops will be held on Thursday, February 23 from 1-3:00 p.m. and Mondary February 27 from 3-5 p.m. to help you complete the online FAFSA. The workshops are drop-in; you do not need an appointment.
Students must re-apply each year and are encouraged to file the application as soon after January 1 of each year as possible. For example, students should apply as soon as possible after January 1, 2012 when applying for financial aid for the 2012-2013 school year. While applications are accepted throughout the school year, files are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Application Deadlines: It is recommended that students complete the application process prior to March 2 each year to assure full consideration for all programs. Some funds are very limited and run out well before the school year begins.
If you miss the recommended deadline, it is not too late to apply! Some programs have funds available all year.
It is very important you go to the correct website. Some websites charge for completing the FAFSA. The official government website does not charge at www.fafsa.ed.gov
You must list the School Code Number for College of the Redwoods, which is 001185, on your FAFSA application. Your information will then be forwarded to College of the Redwoods so that we can begin the process of determining your eligibility for financial aid. Make sure you regularly check your student redwoods.edu email account for further information after you complete the FAFSA.
At the end of the online FAFSA, students must either sign electronically using a PIN number which is provided by the Department of Education, or they must print and mail a signed signature page to the Federal Processing Center.
If you have any technical difficulties with the online application you can call the Federal Processing Center at 1-800-433-3243.
WARNING - Think carefully before paying fees for Financial Aid Consultants and Scholarship Search Services:
As the financial aid process has become more complex, there has been a significant increase in the number ofindividuals offering professional financial aid services to students and their families. Most popular among these are financial aid consultants and scholarship search companies. Some families sing the praises of certain consultants and scholarship search companies. However, the industry also includes “bad apples” who charge very high fees and who do little more than provide information that is readily available for free. As a wise consumer, you should exercise caution to avoid being taken advantage of and to be sure you fully understand the services that are offered. Click here for more information.
